REFLECTION TASK 3

If I were a jury member of tbe committee choosing the person of the year, my candidate would be Ahmet Şimşirgil. He is a history academician. He is a professor of Ottoman History on the historical period which extends from the conquest of İstanbul in the faculty of science and literature at the Marmara University. I love history and I am so curious about the real history of Ottoman Empire.Hence,I start to research some academicians who are interested in Ottoman Empire. One of them is Ahmet Şimşirgil. He is very qualified person and he tells the Ottoman Empire very clearly without making the readers bored. I thinkbhe is very objective because he always supports his statement with evidences. He wrote a lot of books that tell each period in Ottoman Empire. I love his books. I like learning the facts about the Ottoman. To sum up, I choose Ahmet Şimşirgil because he is very knowledgable and subjective.

REFLECTION TASK FILM REVIEW( ENTRE LE MURS/THE CLASS

ENTRE LE MURS(THE CLASS)
Short summary: Write a short summary about the film (with the characters, environment and basic events in the movie.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by François and it is also based on a real story. The film tells us that the teacher,in a leading role,François encounters many difficulties in a class which includes international students and tells the ways of solutions to these problems. The setting of the film is the school in the district of Paris. In the film there are especially problematic students like Esmeralda,Khountba and Souleymane. The film starts with the introduction of teachers among themselves.Although the first greeting is so cold and formal, at the end of the film teachers, director and students play football and this relation is very sincere and friendly.

I think the film is related to both idealism and realism. As a sign of idealism, there is a hierarchy. At the top there is a manager ,in the middle there are teachers and the lowest level is for students and respect for those who at the top or middle is so important. For example, in one scene François says ‘’Teachers can say somethings but students cannot.’’ This sentence also shows us the importance given to hiearchy. Furthermore, The differences between students are not taken into consideration. For example in the class there are many cultures so students can give importance to different things but the values for them are not considered and they are treated with the same way. When it comes to the relation with realism, schooling in the film is composed of subject matter disciplines and there is a defined curriculum which includes maths, science, as a second language English and as an official language French. To understand whether students learn or not , there are standardized  tests and assignments that students have to do.

FREE REFLECTION 2

In my free reflection 2, I want to mention about being a student at METU. I think being a student at METU is privilege for the students because of two main reasons. One of the reason is that METU provide its students with necessary academic skills. Because METU has a different point of view about the education and social skills at the same time, it has expert teachers in their fields. METU gives importance to both the improvement of the individuals in their academic life and the utility of these skills in their everyday lives. Moreover, students have opportunities to improve their social skills since METU has many different student groups. Among these groups, students can find the most suitable group for themselves. Joining these groups also improves students' relations with other people. For example, the students joining one of these groups talk easily in front of people, they become self confident and their knowledge of world is much broader due to the fact that they learn new things about different subjects in these groups. The othe rreason is that METU has a big campus. At METU, students can find a lot of places to eat, a lot of sports to do and a lot of activitiesto enjoy. Whenever they are bored, they can find a way to get rid of their bad mood. Moreover, they can easily meet their needs even if they do not go outside of the campus. To sum up, being a student at METU is privilege since it provides academic and social skills at the same time and it has a big campus.

FREE REFLECTION 1

In this free reflection 1, I want to mention about my job dream. You may be surprised when you read my writing and you may think how a person can devote yourself to becoming English teacher. Being an English teacher is my first and only dream from fourth grade. The reason for this is that my English teachers were always so nice, kind and sincere and they always encouraged me to become an English teacher. I think teachers affect students' dreams and future goals because of the fact that children start to go to scholl from the early ages, so they are affected whether they want to do or not. For this reason, teachers should become a role model for the students. One of the examples for this situation is me, so I want to tell it. In my fourth grade my first English teacher used to teach English with  different styles. She used new tecniques and she prepared different games to teach subjects. I liked her style and I saw the differences between her and other teachers so I wanted to become like her and my thoughts about English has not changed since then because my new teachers after her were also so nice and a perfect model for me. Now, I am at METU, the department of FLE, which is the place I want to be in. I am so happy due to the fact that when I graduate I will become a good English teacher. Moreover, I work as an aprentice in a language corse called YDS ACADEMY in Kızılay. I teach English to kids and teenagers. I think this is very beneficial to improve my teaching skills. Thanks to these experiences, I trust in myself much more than before. To sum up, I always wanted to become an English teacher, now I want and in the future it will not change.
